We live in a time where it matters to people more than ever to know who they are buying from. Not just who made it, or where it was made, but what the brand behind the product stands for. I understand that, I feel it as well.
Wherever, whenever I am spending money I try to support businesses, big or small, that aren't using their profits, brand name, or influence to diminish human rights, women's rights, the rights of minorities, the rights of immigrants, the right to love and marry who you choose, or the right to vote.
I do not get this right 100% of the time. However, "when I know better, I do better." While I know that we as humans crave certainty, as I've grown as a person, I have come to the realization that there are very few things I hold with total certainty, and I've learned to be honest about that rather than letting my silence say otherwise.
Times change, people change, culture changes, and understanding changes. I follow peace in staying open to growth. I do not have it all figured out.
My own politics follow my values. Not a political party, or person. Values determine my vote. I did not vote for the current administration and I strongly oppose the direction it is taking our country.
This is my statement of where I stand and what I believe as clearly as I can put it. I care about people's rights, both at home and abroad. I try to let my treatment of others and the life I live be the testament of what I value. I have not "arrived", I have so much to learn. My commitment to myself is to change and grow following peace, and with joy.
